What is InBody?
InBody is a brand of professional devices that measure body composition. Such a device looks like a scale with handgrips: your member stands on it, holds the electrodes, and receives a results sheet after roughly 15 to 60 seconds. Instead of only showing the total weight in kilograms, InBody breaks that weight down into its components, such as fat mass, muscle mass and body water.
The measurement uses bio-electrical impedance analysis (BIA): a very small, safe current runs through the body via eight contact points (two on each hand and each foot). Because muscle and water conduct current well while fat resists it, the device can calculate the composition. The test is fast, non-invasive, and your members can largely perform it themselves.
InBody is made by the South Korean company InBody Co., Ltd. For the Benelux, sales and support run through InBody Europe (head office in Amsterdam) or authorized local distributors. (The company and device details come from the supplier.)
What can InBody do for my club?
An InBody measurement gives your members and coaches objective figures instead of just a number on the scale. Among other things, the device measures:
- Fat mass and fat percentage, muscle mass, fat-free mass and total body water.
- Segmental analysis: muscle and fat separately per body part (left and right arm, trunk, left and right leg), useful for spotting imbalances.
- Additional values on most models: visceral fat, basal metabolic rate (BMR), an overall InBody score and a history chart across repeated measurements.
For your club, this mainly delivers the following:
- Objective progress: on a repeat measurement you can see whether a change in weight is fat loss or muscle gain, something an ordinary scale does not show.
- More touchpoints and retention: a repeat measurement is a natural reason to see your member again and discuss goals.
- Personal coaching and upsell: trainers tailor their program to the measurement, and you can link paid health checks, personal training or coaching packages to it.
In Club Planner, the integration retrieves a member's most recent InBody measurement from the LookInBody cloud and stores it as a fitness test (body test) on the member profile. A set of core values is carried over into the test: weight, fat mass, BMI, height, visceral fat, muscle mass and body water. The full measurement data is stored along with it.
How do I set up InBody?
The integration consists of two parts: you activate it yourself in MyClubPlanner, and importing measurements is done afterwards by a staff member in the Club Planner desktop app.
What you need in advance
- A physical InBody device whose measurements are uploaded to the LookInBody cloud.
- A LookInBody Web API subscription that provides you with three pieces of information: an API Key, an Account and a User ID. These come from InBody/LookInBody itself. You arrange them directly with InBody or your distributor, not through Club Planner.
- A staff login with the rights to open the settings.
- The member must exist and at least one test type must be set up, so the measurement can be saved as a test.
Step 1 — Activate the integration in MyClubPlanner
- Go to Settings > Integrations.
- On the InBody tile, click the Settings button.
- Turn the Active toggle on.
- Fill in the three fields below and click Save. The integration only gets the status Active when the toggle is on and all three fields are filled in.
| Field | What you enter |
|---|---|
| API-Key | Your LookInBody Web API key. |
| API-account | Your LookInBody account. |
| User-ID | The default LookInBody user/device ID used to look up measurements. |
Step 2 — Import measurements (back office)
Retrieving measurements is done manually by a coach in the Club Planner desktop app: open the member profile, go to the Coaching page and click the Inbody button to fetch the latest measurement(s). In the older Club Planner.exe, you are first asked for the InBody User ID before the import starts.
Please note: there is no automatic or scheduled synchronization. A measurement only appears on the member profile after a staff member runs the import themselves. You activate the integration and fill in the details in MyClubPlanner; the import itself remains a back-office action in the desktop app.
Privacy and safety
- InBody results are personal health data. Under the GDPR, make sure you have a valid legal basis and your member's consent before you store measurements, and set out the data processing agreement (DPA), retention period and data residency with InBody.
- InBody advises against measuring people with a pacemaker or implanted defibrillator (the current could theoretically interfere with the implant). Pregnant women are also better not measured, because the results are unreliable due to the fluctuating fluid balance.
These guidelines come from InBody itself and do not replace medical advice.
