Reading a Belgian eID in Club Planner (Windows & Mac)

With the Club Planner Extension for Google Chrome, Club Planner can read the data on a Belgian eID card (name, address, national registry number and photo) directly through a card reader. The installation consists of two parts: the Chrome extension and a small helper program on the computer.

What do you need?

  • Google Chrome
  • Windows, or a Mac running macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer
  • A USB card reader for the eID
  • The Club Planner Extension (step 1)
  • The Club Planner helper program for Windows or Mac (step 2)

Step 1 — Install the Chrome extension (Windows and Mac)

  1. Open this page in Chrome: Club Planner Extension in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Click Add to Chrome and confirm.
  3. Type chrome://extensions in the address bar and check that the toggle next to "Club Planner Extension" is on (blue).

Step 2 — Windows: install the helper program

  1. Download ClubPlannerNativeHostSetup.exe.
  2. Run the downloaded file and complete the installation.
  3. Close Chrome completely and start it again.

Step 2 — Mac: install the helper program

  1. Download ClubPlanner-eID-Mac.tar.gz.
  2. Double-click the downloaded file to unpack it; you will get the folder ClubPlanner-eID-Mac.
  3. Open that folder and double-click installeer.command. A Terminal window opens; wait until KLAAR! (done) appears.
  4. Does the Mac say the file cannot be opened (unidentified developer)? Then do this once: right-click (or Ctrl + click) installeer.command → Open → click Open again.
  5. On macOS 15 (Sequoia) or newer the right-click trick no longer works. Double-click the file (the Mac refuses — that is normal), then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll all the way down and click Open Anyway next to the message about installeer.command.
  6. Close Chrome completely (Cmd + Q) and start it again.

Testing

  1. Connect the card reader and insert an eID card.
  2. Open a member file in Club Planner and choose Read eID. Or simply insert a card: a notification appears that lets you open or create the member right away.

Troubleshooting

  • "Could not establish connection": type chrome://extensions in the address bar and check that "Club Planner Extension" is installed and that its toggle is on (blue). Then restart Chrome completely.
  • Check that the card reader is plugged into a USB port and that a card is inserted.
  • Did you really close Chrome completely and reopen it after the installation? (Mac: Cmd + Q — just closing the window is not enough.)
  • Mac: "Host not found" even after a correct installation? Check the macOS version via  → About This Mac. The helper program requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or newer; on older versions it will not start. Macs from 2017 onwards can upgrade to macOS 13 for free — run that update first (and then update Chrome as well) and install again.
